Because I eat nothing but mac & cheese, black bean tacos and Cheerios, I’ve decided to try a new hobby and get cooking. I looked up some recipies, and while everything I found had garlic or onions in it, I will still attempt to make:
Spaghetti sauce made with tomato paste, tomato sauce, and diced tomatoes. That’s the only way I can handle it. I might put some basil in, but really there’s no telling how fancy I will get.
Spinach and artichoke dip with frozen spinach and canned artichokes. It may end up tasting similar to either of the packages those things come in, but the recipie is acutually quite healthy once you remove the mayo and cream cheese and use low-fat parmesan!
A roasted red pepper filled with couscous. Simple, since the couscous comes from a box, but this is more of a test to see if I like peppers or not - according to Nick, “not spicy” but then again he pours those flaky pepper things on his pizza and “can’t even taste them” so I may be quite sick after eating this.
A 7-layer vegetable & protein-packed dip. Beans, ground beef, possibly squash, tomatoes, avocado and a little cheese on top. That doesn’t sound too appetizing right now, perhaps I’ll have the squash on the side.
Hummus - probably easy, but without garlic, pine nuts, tahini and all that other stuff, it might just end up tasting like plain garbanzo beans in olive oil. Yay.
If you’re wondering why I took out, in your opinion, “the good stuff” it’s because I’m a frequent heartburn sufferer and nearly everything I eat (besides mac & cheese, black bean tacos and Cheerios) gives me a stomachache. Garlic and onions are my kryptonite, and actually I’m already hurting myself enough with all the different tomato products going into the spaghetti sauce; quite possibly the red pepper, too. If I can find a few new recipies to break up the monotony and encourage me to eat vegetables and meat (which I don’t currently eat based on long prep time/disgusting texture), I might feel better.
We’ll see.
